Case Dropped In Kardashian Book Vandalism
Connecticut man, 74, destroyed selfie tome
SEPTEMBER 8--In a laudatory example of prosecutorial discretion, a 74-year-old Connecticut man will not be tried for destroying copies of Kim Kardashian’s book of selfies at a Barnes & Noble store.
In a recent court filing, government lawyers disclosed that they would not pursue a case against Carl Puia, who was arrested in March on a criminal mischief count.
According to police, Puia (seen at right) went to a Barnes & Noble near his Glastonbury home and destroyed six copies of Kardashian’s “Selfish.” Puia, cops reported, poured “a red liquid” over the books and then “left a lengthy typed note for Barnes and Noble stating his dislike for Kim Kardashian and people like her.”
Puia, who had been free on $2500 bond, did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment on the dismissal of the misdemeanor charge.
The dropping of the case against Puia will likely be greeted with delight by many of his fellow Kardashian detractors. When his arrest was first reported, the hashtag FreeCarlPuia appeared on Twitter, where one supporter declared, “Carl Puia is all of us.” (1 page)
